OCD is for Obsession Compulsive Disorder – by Lianna Heintz – English 110

O is for ocd - liana heintzOCD is a mental health disorder dominated by excessive thoughts that lead to repetitive behaviors and compulsions.

Most people see OCD as the common germaphobe, as well as the forgetful type.  That is far from Vunsh’s issue.  People mistake OCD for more simpler terms like being a perfectionist or acting quirky.  They think simply being anxious resonates with OCD.  It is much more complex than what most know.  Vunsh lives everyday different than the average person.  He wakes up off the bat experiencing intrusive thoughts.  Some are more in depth, some do not even make sense, some are taboo, and some are completely reasonable.  The point is his mind is in constant overthinking motion.  OCD can consist of having to complete certain rituals daily just to not fall into a tweaking matter.  It also consists of needing a sense of control.  When something is out of balance it can trigger any experience or example and amplify it times 100.  This also means needing constant reassurance if everything is in motion or is okay, whether that be from others, or from himself.  He was diagnosed in 2023 but has been feeling these emotions since childhood.  He described the overbearing taboo thoughts for example scooping an eye out.  Living in a traditional immigrant household where things like this were not easy to talk about made it harder for him to get help until later years.  He goes on with life as if there is an insanely loud relentless alarm in his mind that keeps going off, but there is no danger occurring.  To me, since having experience with some OCD, I have always been understanding and feel like though this is very broad and complex, it is admirable.  It takes someone strong to constantly push through mind take overs and for that I am very proud.
