A is for Adolescence – by Abiu Mercado Ruiz – English 110

A is for adolescence - black hexagon   Adolescence is the transitional time from childhood to adulthood.

During this time, teens experience many physical, emotional, and social changes, including puberty, which makes them capable of having children. When a teenager becomes pregnant, it often brings many challenges. Teen mothers may face health risks, such as having babies with low birth weight or complications during childbirth. Additionally, they may not have finished their education, which can make it harder for them to find good jobs in the future. This can affect their ability to provide for themselves and their baby.  Adolescent pregnancy can also lead to emotional and social difficulties. Many teens are not fully prepared for the responsibilities of raising a child. They may face judgment from others, which can make them feel isolated or stressed. This can also put pressure on their families, who may need to provide extra support. In many cases, adolescent pregnancy can happen due to a lack of knowledge about contraception or access to birth control methods. It can also be linked to factors such as poverty, peer pressure, or lack of parental guidance. Preventing adolescent pregnancy often involves educating teens about reproductive health, promoting the use of contraceptives, and providing support systems that encourage healthy relationships and decision-making.  Helping teens delay pregnancy until they are ready can lead to healthier lives for both the young parents and their children.
