From Women’s Liberation to #Me Too – Movements Forward for Equality – by Reyna Reynoso – English 61

In English 61, I encourage my students to explore issues that impact them the most. We reading a novel about a young woman coming of age in the sixties.  Inspired by the writing,   I often receive essays on Gender Equality, Women’s Rights, Domestic Violence, Sexual Harrassment – mostly from the women in my classrooms, but some from the men.  Below, Reyna shares her sixties research paper.  She searched for the origins of the Women’s Movement.  She began reading Gloria Steinem and ended writing about Alyssa Milano. Her paper reflects the key components of their leadership.  From her readings, Reyna now defines herself as a feminist.   With these types of essays, we want to build a bridge from the classroom to the community.  Today’s COD Friends of the Earth seek to be tomorrow’s “lideres.”
