In my English classes this week I’m asking my students to create “Stuff We’re Reading” tab at the top of their writing blogs. I want them to hold on to what they read. What’s wrong with that? My only request for them is not to write a “book report.” I would prefer for them to write a “book experience.” Our goal is to write down our feelings associated with the book to preserve our memories.
I can’t remember if this assignment was inspired by a Raymond Carver short story called “Fever,” or maybe I thought of “Fever” after the fact. Either way, I couldn’t stop myself from writing down my thoughts for this blog post. I'm going to put it down under "Stuff We're Reading." I hope my students one day feel the same fever about reading as I do.
