Not Blowing Smoke

This week I’m preparing to host a campus workshop I call “Jay’s Celebration of Student Writing.” My goal is to encourage students, staff and community to share their best writing in a public forum. You can look forward to student readings, collaborative activities, and unforgettable film clips. There will be plenty of discussion to go around. I want to make reading and writing cool. This brings me to my writing today – I just purchased extra copies of the memoir Girl, Interrupted we read in my classes. I’m going to give them away as gifts at the workshop. Below, I try to explain how these types of gifts can make all the difference in the world…
