Little Girl Blue – Janis Joplin – Abstract

It happens every semester; many of my students readily admit they don’t like to write. They take my class, for it is required of them to graduate or transfer. I do my best to get them in the right mindset to succeed. There is no reason to feel STUCK, I say. I try to convince them in my classes they can improve through hard work, the use of effective strategies, and the solicitation of help when and where they need it – Even during the Coronavirus Shutdown!

Today, I share with them an abstract of a Janis Joplin essay I once wrote. In many of my classes we are writing research papers based on historical films and/or documentaries. In high school Janis was bullied and laughed out of town for being different, but that didn’t stop her from achieving her dreams. I call her The Queen of NEVERGIVEUP. Below I provide a glimpse at how the writing looks in my classroom blog. I hope my students connect: "Well, I'm gonna try, just a little bit harder…"
