Breakup in Miraflores

I do my best each day in my classroom to provide the necessary tools for my students to succeed in their academic writing.   I only hope sooner than later they will need little push or guidance from me to write what is important to them. This winter, I’ve encouraged my students in basic composition classes to begin their own writing blogs. “Everything that happens to you is all yours,” I tell them.  “Just write it!”  We’re reading Suzanna Kaysen’s memoir Girl, Interrupted.  Through her stay in a mental hospital, she made sense of her world through daily journal entries.  It saved her life.  

I try to write every day. If you want to develop a better, more compassionate understanding of the world around you, that’s a good start. Writing will lead you to places you can’t imagine you’ll go.  Below is the most recent entry from my class blog:
