This summer I’m trying to emphasize group work. We’ve developed CANVAS groups. We’re working on Google groups and Google Slides. The goal is for my students to listen LESS to me and talk MORE to each other. It’s called learning through collaboration. So, we’re reading T.C. Boyle’s award winning short story “The Love of My Life.” I have a feeling my students will pool together important insight, experience and knowledge. The story is about teen pregnancy. It’s a problem here. My students live in a county that consistently ranks among the highest in the state.
We all know someone who has been affected either directly or indirectly by teen pregnancy. I’m asking my groups to develop their ideas on powerpoint slides. I think after reading this story, they will all have something to say. Below, I model a “Quote Sandwich.” Among other things, I have asked each group to provide background and analysis to a quote from the story.
