The Psychopath Test in The Tortilla Curtain

This week I ask my students to re-examine the novel they just read — The Tortilla Curtain.   Much of the behavior they read about on the page, they can see right before their eyes in their own communities. In 1995, author T.C. Boyle  wrote about a racial division in this country.  Sadly, the hatred and bigotry has only grown  worse.   In the class sessions remaining, we are working in groups to create a Tortilla Curtain Webpage.  So far, everyone seems to have plenty to write about.

Below I share part of a sample post I use as a model.  As my students read The Tortilla Curtain,  I’ve been reading Jon Ronson’s The Psychopath Test.  Ronson is a good writer with a dark sense of humor.  He and T.C. Boyle seem to have a lot in common.
