Shelter from the Storm

It’s research season in my English classes.  This is where I encourage my students to visit their campus and local libraries, but, sadly, I rarely get the response I’m shooting for.  While I talk about books, displays, literary activities,  they look at their phones.   I suppose I’m not going to get anywhere standing on a soap box proclaiming my passion for books. From what I see, most student experience with school library is limited to the standardized once-a-semester orientation session.  That’s it; then, back to the phones or laptops.

Below, I share just one of many blog posts that reflect a personal library experience.  I hope to convince my students of the opportunities, resources available to them   I won’t assign my students  library hours.  I don’t offer them extra credit points to go.  But, I will share a few library stories and the semester rolls along.  I have plenty of them.  It’s my hope my students understand  a safe, welcoming environment awaits…
