I learned this one in a writers workshop: “Two Truths and One Lie.” I’m using it as a warm-up activity on the opening day of each semester. This is what I say to my students: “Write three well-developed paragraphs about yourself. Think of your experiences, interests, triumphs, and tragedies…. Two of them have to be true. One of them has to be a lie.” When they are done writing, I ask them to exchange their work with a partner. From reading the paragraphs, their partners will try to determine where they are telling the truth, and where they are lying. Here is mine I use as a sample. Can you catch me in my lie/mentira?
