“The Mexican Spitfire” by Tiffany Alcaraz

Lupe Velez ended her life in much the same way she lived it – in a blaze of drama.  They didn’t call her the Mexican Spitfire for nothing.  Here, Tiffany explores the tragic conditions of her suicide.  Lupe was an international screen star of tremendous style and self-confidence, but behind the Hollywood glamour there was the vulnerability she brought with her from San Luis de Potosi.  In her research paper, Tiffany writes of warning signals from suicide victims. If we hear them, if we see them, will we be able to help?
