Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down

This summer to improve my Spanish I’m following the Colombian telenovela “Correo de Inocentes.”

Its main character Pilar Carrazco faces some hard times when her baby girl suffers a life-threatening kidney disease. Pilar is both a loving and courageous mother who will do anything to save the life of her child. This includes participating in a desperate drug smuggling caper to pay for an operation. One thing leads to another, and Pilar ends up doing eight years in a Mexican Women’s Prison.

Fortunately, the baby is saved. The rest of the novella details Pilar’s fight to regain her life and daughter. Here, as a sample blog post for a writing assignment, I try to imagine what type of tattoo Pilar would have chosen to put on her back….
