You’ve Got To Read This Essay: La Reina del Sur.

My students are to break down an important reading experience in their lives.  In this essay,  we will discuss literary elements of allusion, irony, flashbacks, etc., but before we get started I ask for a concise summary.   I mean, choose the most important parts of the book.  Reduce 300 pages to 300 words. Make every sentence count.

I’m going with La Reina del Sur because it offers me a great cause and effect opportunity.  I was inspired by the strength of the main character Teresa Mendoza.  Every time things became more difficult and/or dangerous for her, she became stronger.
