Early in my teaching career, I was accepted to a bilingual graduate program in Mexico City. I had to take a challenging language exam and pass an interview in Spanish. That was no problema. I’m good in the classroom. The problema was they told me that I would have to live with a Mexican family. I’m bad with people.
The following is my culture crash. I’ve instructed my students to write of their brushes, clashes, and/or crashes with other cultures. It could be ugly and uncomfortable. It could be beautiful and life changing. But I bet it’s going to be interesting. Here’s mine. I try to share a cultural experience that I will remember for a long, long time:
